The capital and administrative center for French Polynesia is a great place to begin or end your South Pacific cruise. The main street, not surpisingly, runs right along the harbor. It's lined with cafes, bistros, and shops selling jewelry made from local black pearls, colorful 'pareus' (sarongs) and more.
